I do not recommend Stedmans Medical spellchecker
|
Review Date: August 2, 2010
Reviewer: tcoates,
I am a professor of medicine and do a lot of writing and have used several versions of Stedmans medical spell checker. When it works, it is excellent. It seems to have most medical terms including names of drugs, even in Oncology. It works fairly seamlessly with Word..... when it works.
Starting a few versions ago they changed their security model and now the product is almost worthless. As noted by other reviewers, registering the product is difficult and annoying. What is worse, is that for seemingly no reason, the spellchecker stops working and you can not re-register unless you are online. I have had several episodes where i am in a plane or hotel tyring to work on my laptop only to find the program stopped and i was stuck with a ton of work to do and no spell checker. It seems to require re-registration every few months. This is a pain even if you are connected to the internet. I had a couple of very unsatisfying interactions with their tech support. I have several licensees that now do not work. Stedmans is summarily unhelpful. This may be in part due to the general bad performance of Windows and Word as well. That notwithstanding, I just don't have time to waste dealing with these people to resolve it! (am changing to Mac to take care of the Windows part).

The software arrived very quickly, which was much appreciated, and it was exactly as advertised. Worked perfectly and I'm using it without any problem on my new computer. Definitely would order from them again.
Medical Spellchecker - NOT!

Am not really thrilled with this product. First, to install the software, I had to contact the company
and get their "permission" to install the product - just registering the product wasn't enough. Second,
common medical words (esophagectomy, endorphins, etc.)are shown as not being in the Spellchecker. What's
with this? According to the literature, medical terminology and common pharmaceutical names are supposed
to be in the software - Lipitor, a common cholesterol reducing drug - comes up as unknown.
I will not buy this product again.

Stedman's Plus Medical/Pharmaceutical Spellchecker, 2009. This is a wonderful item if you are in the medical field. I installed it and the program works with your Microsoft Word program. I know how to spell many words and on purpose spelled some wrong and it showed me various ways to spell the word. This is great. I would recommend it 100%.Stedman's Plus Medical/pharmaceutical Spellchecker, 2009, Single-user Download Upgrade
